Candidate's Responses

  1. Do you support the integration of climate change throughout every subject?

Yes - Even subjects like history are relevant here - for example how countries mobilised their economies in preparation for war, is a great analogy for how we need to change our society in response to the threat of climate change
  2. Do you support the teaching on solutions for climate change, as well as the causes and impacts?

Absolutely. Many young people will be working in the Green jobs of the future, so it's important for people to realise how climate solutions can help us mitigate and adapt.
  3. Do they support more training for all teachers around the climate crisis?

Yes. Our current generations of teachers didn't learn about the climate when they were at school and climate education isn't traditionally a part of the curriculum. Climate change is the defining feature of the future, the next generations need to be as empowered as they possibly can.
  4. Do they support more money being spent to upgrade schools so they are carbon neutral?

This is an investment that will pay off,
  5. Do they support more green skills being taught in job-related education?

Yes. We push 100% of young people through an academic education which is perfect for 25% of people, tolerable for 50% of people, and intolerable for the remaining 25%. People have a wide range of skills but our education system has too much of a focus on academia. We need much better practical and technical education - we could be helping so many more young people to get better value out of their formative years by recognising their neurotype and skills and adapting education to people's strengths.
