Tomorrow we will face the prospect of implementing a new government. Hopefully, this will be one that brings with it notions of climate justice and education reform, two things so idiosyncratic to our being that this general election strikes fear in the hearts of many people when they think of what is at stake.

We’ve analysed each manifesto against our 6 demands of #TeachTheFuture. It’s clear to see our climate strikes have had an impact in shifting the conversation for some parties. The transformation of our education system as a means to solve the climate crisis and ecological emergency is reflected most clearly in the commitments by the Greens and Labour.

Earlier this week I was in Brussels, visiting the European Parliament as part of a trip organised by my MEP, Ellie Chowns. Whilst I was there, I had the pleasure of attending a session run by a civil servant about how the European Parliament operates and the like, and he remarked on how he often encountered British visitors to have much less knowledge of political affairs than citizens of other countries,

Since January, students have been striking from school once a month to protest the government's lack of action on the climate crisis. These strikes, organised by the UK Students Climate Network, are based around four key demands. One of these demands is that the government reforms the education system to teach young people about the urgency, severity and scientific basis of the climate crisis. Here, students are going to tell you why this is so important.

But fighting this crisis is about more than just the facts. The youth strike movement has already been etched into every history book about to be written. When protests are transformative in themselves, when they are radical, when they are grassroots and genuine - these are actions we cannot ignore, and indeed the young people of the world have already made their mark on the fight for climate justice.

In the past few weeks we have seen 7.6 million people worldwide rise up to strike for climate action. This has been led by young people fighting for their future. I was proud to stand before a crowd of 100,000 in London on Friday 20 September and call for the radical reforms our education system requires.
