Today we are so excited to announce that we are in the process of employing 6 new staff members to work on the Teach the Future campaign. Each will be introduced in a short blog, last (but not least) we have Grace Corn.
So, who are you?
Hi, I’m Grace! I am a 23 year old Project Manager at Students Organising for Sustainability UK (SOS-UK). I joined SOS-UK in September 2019 after finishing my year as the Vice President Welfare & Community of the University of Lincoln Students’ Union. In my role I work to deliver SOS-UK’s Green Impact and Student Switch Off programmes at universities, NHS Trusts, businesses and community organisations around London and the south of the UK. I have recently joined the Teach The Future team and will be supporting the growth of the campaign two days a week as a Campaign Manager! Why is Teach the Future/Climate Education important to you? I graduated from the University of Lincoln with a degree in Politics and International Relations in 2018. Although I really enjoyed studying for my degree, I was disappointed that the climate and ecological crises (the biggest challenges to face the international community) were not covered in the curriculum. If you look for the leaders of any industry or sector, you will find that they are university educated people, and predominantly they are making poor decisions for our communities and our planet. I believe that if we are to have any hope of tackling this emergency, we desperately need our schools, colleges and universities to be teaching the leaders of tomorrow today, equipping them to think sustainably no matter their discipline or career path. What are you bringing to the team? I bring to the team my academic background in politics as well as my experience in project management and campaigning! As a sabbatical officer for the University of Lincoln Students’ Union I lobbied the university to declare a climate emergency and do more for the environment as an institution. At SOS-UK I support others to do the same and create meaningful change at their institutions. I am excited to be joining the Teach The Future team and to be working with such inspirational young people, paving the way for a truly fit-for-purpose education system! What's a fun fact about you? I make a mean veggie katsu curry!
